If you are viewing this page, it is not a coincidence! Take the next steps to build or refresh your skills in unplanned emergency cardiovascular situations.
As defined by the American Heart Association (AHA), Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life saving procedure that is performed when the heart stops beating. Beginning CPR immediately can double or triple a person's change of survival.
Healthcare workers, law enforcement, teachers, daycare workers, personal trainers, and life guards are among many professional that should have these skills, however; anyone including children can obtain skills and utilize them in an emergency situation.
Basic Life Support (BLS) is an all-in-one course that includes basic skills which include CPR. CPR is only one technique that is used in an emergency situation. This technique focuses just on compressions. Most times people use the two terms interchangeably, however; those who get a BLS certification, obtain several skills that can be utilized in an emergency setting
Find a BLS or CPR class offered by an AHA instructor. Once you have taken the class, you will be given a card that allows you to act in an emergency cardiovascular situation. This card is valid for 2 years and has to be renewed before, or at your 2 year mark. The AHA requires a refresher course every 2 years .
